WOODLAND RETREAT

2023 WLCA Award-Winning Project

For this Hartland new construction project, the client wanted to complement their existing outdoor kitchen and fireplace with a natural-looking landscape that included a waterfall wrapping around the outdoor room, ambient lighting, and a paver pathway for relaxation. To accommodate the exposed basement slopes, we used lannon outcropping for the walls and waterfall, and selected Techo-Bloc pavers in ivory and riviera blue to match the house’s stone. The perimeter edging featured Belgard’s Anglia Edger® for a natural, sturdy finish that was easy to mow along.

Plant selections were flexible, with the client favoring grasses, red foliage, and birch trees, which we integrated alongside natural shrubs and perennials to blend with the surrounding woodland. We also incorporated red barberries, roses, and coneflowers for added color. For lighting, we illuminated the front trees, stone, waterfall, and pathways with uplights, bollards, and recessed lights. The final design harmonized perfectly with the natural surroundings, creating a peaceful oasis that exceeded the client’s expectations.
