Lawn and Plant Health Care Manager
Job Summary: The Lawn and Plant Health Care Manager will be responsible for leading our Lawn and Plant Health Care Crew at American Landscape. This will involve hands-on management of the 3 to 4-person Lawn & Plant Health Care Crew, enforcing company safety standards, mentoring our applicators/technicians, among other leadership tasks. Additionally, The Lawn and Plant Health Care Manager will ensure quality control over our plant health and lawn care services across our client base. This individual should also act as a consultant for the company on all matters pertaining to Plant and Lawn Health and ensuring American Landscape keeps an exceptional brand in these areas. The key priorities for the position are as stated in this summary, but please find more in-depth details below.
Skills/Qualifications:
· High level knowledge of Plant Health Care as well as Lawn management.
· Proficiency in identifying plant and turf diseases – and diagnosing the appropriate treatment.
· Highly effective leadership style.
· Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills.
· Ability to handle sensitive employee information and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
· Effective organizational, follow-through and prioritization skills.

· 3+ years of related work experience preferred.
· Possess the WI 3.0 Pesticide certification.

General Duties:
- Day to day management and scheduling of a three-person team that performs lawn care, tree and shrub care, large round-up sprays for construction and other unusually large jobs that require blanket spray applications, etc. This includes periodic review of quality and job performance, job time management, time posting, and other day to day managerial activities.
- Purchase requisitions for relevant materials, tools and supplies need to do the work.
- The position is in part a field management position which would include quality control, customer service, and working in the field. We encourage field work and management.
- Management of relevant inventory management including proper chemical storage.
- Provide guidance and recommendations for related capital equipment acquisitions and planning.
- Provide leadership to grow the plant health division significantly. This would include:
1. Provide leadership and direction as to developing the proper pricing and estimating system for such work.
2. Work with our sales team to fully educate them on plant health services offered; teaching them how to effectively sell such services.
3. Work with our sales manager on marketing to grow the plant health division of the business significantly.
4. Performing sales quotations for plant health care leads.
5. Consideration and development of new value-added programs (for example, a mosquito control program).
- Mandatory attendance to a weekly, production managers meeting, a weekly or bi-weekly one-on-one meeting with the President, occasional to regular attendance at the weekly sales meeting, and attendance at the company-wide safety meetings occurring once to twice per month.
- Assist in our snow operations
- Participate in special projects and other tasks to be assigned.
Once the manager demonstrates attainment of incremental objectives, a continued path of increased responsibility and opportunity will be assigned to such a manager who wishes to grow with the company. This growth potential includes running larger pieces of our production operation up to an including the entire operation.
Principal Duties:
· Review and/or determine daily job schedules and work assignments.
· Dispatch daily schedules and tasks to crews and crew leaders via automated time-keeping system.
· Daily review of time-keeping and job/task logs correcting any mistakes to maintain a high level of accuracy.
· Supervise all tasks and operations of AALS Inc.’s Lawn and Plant Health Care Department to ensure smoothness and efficiency.
· Reports to the President on a periodic basis regarding status of the department to include, but not limited to:

- Work assignments, projects and scheduling of each.
- Department productivity levels.
- Promotion possibilities with individuals.
- Departmental expenses based on budgets, and any abnormal or unusual items.
- Actual vs planned results and actions taken or set up for correction in problem areas.
- Work flow issues and corrective action plans.
- Quality control status and re-work or damage costs due to non-standard work being completed.
- Necessary purchase of parts and supplies.
· Obtain authorization from the President for all department overtime.
· Assists with training Senior Foremen and Crew Leaders to effectively mold experienced, qualified, and cross-trained employees within each departmental work area. Encourages, but monitors, delegated decision making for problem solving at the lowest possible departmental level.
· Makes Senior Foremen and Crew Leaders aware of the importance of time well spent as an asset and the costs associated with material and time waste, re-work, and damage costs and excessive start-up or set-up delays.
· Frequent review quality of work holding crews accountable for insufficient workmanship. Reiterate and retrain as necessary.
· Identify and recognize outstanding workmanship within employees that meet and/or surpass departmental goals.
· Maintain company machinery and equipment with proper consideration being given to all necessary and cost saving repairs.
· Enforces department work rules and area restrictions (if any) which will promote safe methods of machinery and equipment operation.
· Ensures that the department’s crew employees are starting and stopping on time and the lunch hours and break times are strictly adhered to. Appropriate documentation should be initiated for violators.
· Ensures harmonious working relationships between delegated departmental employees.
· Protects organization’s value by:
- Assuring compliance with established department policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Evaluate all employees and recommend wage increases for deserving employees.
- Recommend rewards and incentives for diligent and high achieving employees to the President.
· Handles special projects, and other duties as assigned by the President.
In addition to the above responsibilities, the following 3 bullet points are part of an initial 5-year plan for the Lawn and Plant Health Care Manager. Any modification, and finalization, will be discussed directly with the President.

The person that leads this effort to achieve such results would benefit greatly both in terms of responsibility and economically – in fact this is a ground floor opportunity within one of the largest and most prestigious full-service landscape companies in southeastern Wisconsin.
- The company would assist this manager in acquiring the necessary certifications and signature cards to make him most successful and professional in the field. This would include the certified arborist and master gardener designations.
- The company would assist with employing resources associated with marketing efforts to help achieve this objective.
